Frequently Asked Questions
About Water Purifiers
Q - Why do I need a water purifier in my home?
Every home absolutely needs a water purifier for both drinking water AND showering and bathing. No matter where you live, there are contaminants in your raw water.
If you live in a city, the water treatment plant is adding chlorine to your water to prevent illness from bacteria and toxic algae. Other chemicals are added for other reasons. It is up to you to remove the chemicals at the point of use with a water purification system to protect yourself from the serious long term effects of these poisons.
Chlorine in water may have caused suffering and early death for millions over the last 100 years. Chlorine readily combines with other compounds, including natural ones, to form new harmful toxins.
For example THM's (trihalomethanes) and MX's (unknown mutagens) are present in virtually every chlorinated water supply. THM's, developed from the combination of chlorine with humic acids from decayed organic matter such as leaves in the source water, is highly carcinogenic.
A U.S. Council of Environmental Quality study states, "Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine."
Q - What about bottled water?
Bottled water is not the answer. There are no standards for how "pure" bottled water should be other than occasional testing for bacteria at bottling sites. How has the equipment been maintained? Is it truly purified water in the bottle?
Much of bottled water is spring water that is not run through a water filter at all. Some is city water filtered simply to remove the taste of chlorine, that still has fluoride and other chemicals in it.
How long has the water been stored in inventory? Bacteria can be growing in it. Also, bottled water is very expensive.
Many of the plastic water bottles contain BPA, a toxic chemical that leaches into the water. Some that claim to be "BPA Free", have BPS instead, which is just as toxic! All plastics contain polymers that potentially might leach into the water.
The most convenient and effective way to have good quality water is to set up your own water purifier in your kitchen and a shower or bath filter in the bathroom. Why not have a water purification system that gives you the best water economically?
With your own pure water system you can have dependably safe water, really pure water, for a cent or two per gallon.
Q - What is KDF or Redox?
"Kinetic Degradation Fluxion" uses an all natural "redox" process in which the "dissimilar" metals copper and zinc are used to create a kinetic charge from the flow of the water through them, that kills microorganisms and alters or removes many problem contaminants. It also conditions water with a "softening" effect.
Q - What is special about KDF or redox media?
In 1987 this exciting breakthrough technology for water purification was discovered. Developed and designed by a leading American scientist, the KDF media has been awarded both U.S. and international patents.
Redox media has been proven to be the best way to remove major contaminants from our water, and shown to stay active longer than any other purification method. The result is better water than bottled water, at a fraction of the cost.
This media is now available with another brand name, Eagle Redox Alloy (ERA).
Q - Is there independent verification that redox media is effective?
In August, 1992, KDF was awarded the U.S. E. P. A.'s approval as a "pesticidal device", which means it has the ability to kill algae, bacteria (including Pseudomonas florescens, Ybrio cholera, Legionella pneumophilia, and coliforms), fungus, mold, and many parasites and viruses found in drinking water supplies, through the natural process known as "electrochemical oxidation/reduction".
KDF has also been certified by independent water purification authorities to kill a target bacteria within the "less than 1 minute contact time" required to be effective in point-of-use water filters. Thus it is "bacteriacidal", a much preferred classification to that of "bacteriostatic", a term often used with filters impregnated with silver, which only slightly retards bacterial growth.
NOTE: Redox media is a relatively expensive substance. Our water purifiers have the substantial amount of redox alloy needed to do a thorough job. There are other brands, some that look like our units, with the same kind of filter housings, that contain only a small amount of redox media so they may say they have it. These will do a lesser job for a shorter time than ours.
Q - How does redox help carbon?
When redox technology is combined with high-quality coconut shell granular activated carbon, the redox protects the carbon from rapid exhaustion with chlorine by handling the chlorine first, thus allowing the carbon to have a much longer effective life. Redox media with carbon has about 10 times the active life of carbon that is not protected like this.
Q - What will redox & carbon do?
Redox & carbon working together are proven effective against microorganisms, chlorine, heavy metals, (aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, iron, lead, mercury, etc.), hydrogen sulfide, nitrates, odor, poor taste, THM's, PCB's, dioxin, glyphosate and thousands of other organic chemicals and inorganic poisons, for an extended time, . . . at the minimal cost of approximately one cent per gallon!
Q - Why do you suggest that a carbon block cartridge be added to the redox & carbon?
Even more effective purification is provided by combining the redox media & carbon with a solid carbon block cartridge. We prefer solid carbon to a ceramic cartridge. A new high-pressure treated solid carbon block cartridge is now available for the second unit in our Mega Heavy Duty Dual systems. It screens down to a micron, which will eliminate most bacteria. The extra carbon extends the effectiveness of the system as a whole in removing organic pesticides and other chemicals.
Filtering to a micron or less eliminates parasites and many bacteria which may be present in water. Most of these that survive the chlorine added by cities, are killed by the redox, but it is still desirable to remove them all.
A newer technology called "Ultra Filtration" is now available in some of our systems. UF is similar to a reverse osmosis membrane, but with a much faster flow of water. UF filters to .02 microns, removing even extremely small particles, germs, etc.
Q - Why are your water purifier systems better than bottled water?
While bottled water may be an improvement over chlorinated tap water, any onsite point-of-use or point-of-entry water treatment with a well-maintained system would be preferable to bottled water, which is clearly unreliable and expensive.
You never know the quality of purchased bottled water. It may be inadequately filtered or not at all. It may have been sitting in a warehouse or on a shelf for many weeks before you buy it.
If bottled water has been purified, how often have the cartridges been changed in the purifying system? The same question may be raised about pure water dispensing machines. These usually use reverse osmosis, which could produce poor water quality if not maintained properly.
With point-of-use purification you know what you are getting, and the cost per gallon is vastly lower than with bottled water.
Q - Why do you consider one of your systems to be the best choice in water purification?
For the cost-conscious individual who is interested in protecting their health, redox technology combined with high-quality coconut shell granular activated carbon offers an attractive water purification choice when it comes to quality, value, and maintenance-free performance. Countertop, under-the-counter and shower units are available at modest cost.
NOTE: A cartridge that contains redox alloy and a special media is available to fully remove fluoride from city water using a flow-through filtration system. Ideally this should be combined with a solid carbon block.
One of our dual redox & Carbon and carbon block or ceramic units will effectively reduce or remove the following contaminants:
~algae ~bacteria ~parasites ~mold/fungus ~bad taste ~bad odor ~pesticides ~herbicides ~fertilizers ~nitrates ~detergents ~PCB's ~THM's ~aluminum ~barium ~cadmium ~chlorine ~fluoride ~iron ~lead ~mercury ~radon ~and many more
For the ultimate in affordable contaminant-removal, corrected reverse osmosis provides the best of all solutions: the very high quality purified water you want, . . . conveniently at home, . . . at a low affordable cost, . . . with a minimum of service & maintenance.
Q - What about Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)?
These would primarily be calcium, magnesium and other tiny mineral particles and ions. A significant amount of these are removed by distillation, deionization and reverse osmosis, but not by redox and carbon.
However, in modest amounts, these minerals are harmless, even nutritional. If the source water is extremely hard, more likely with well water than treated city water, corrected reverse osmosis, which includes a re-mineralizing alkalizer, is the way to go.
CLICK HERE for information on reverse osmosis.
Q - What is the flow rate of your CounterTop and Under Counter flow-through water filtration systems?
That depends on your water pressure. With the normal home water pressure the flow through either type of system would be about a gallon per minute.
Q - When should a re-mineralizing alkalizer be included in a reverse osmosis water purifying system?
Reverse osmosis makes the water more acidic. After the water passes through the reverse osmosis process, it may be valuable to run the water through a "Corrected Water" unit to re-mineralize the water and make it more alkaline. Neutral or slightly alkaline water is healthier for biological systems. It is suggested that the pH (acid/alkaline reading) of you water be tested to be certain of the need for alkalizing.

Q - How long will a shower filter last?
The effective life of our redox and carbon shower units depends on the number and duration of showers, the quality of the water and the flow rate of the shower head used. (Eg., At the 2.5 gallons per minute flow of the standard shower head, a 5 minute shower would use 12.5 gallons, while a 10 minute shower would consume 25 gallons.)
The Luxury Shower Purifier has more of the redox media than other brands. It will take care of up to 99% of chlorine for up to 2 years of showering for one person averaging a 10 minute shower per day; or over 1 year for two people each showering 10 minutes a day.
Further, this unit will condition your water for cleaner, softer, skin and hair with less soap or shampoo.

"The Water You Want" ~ Pure Energized Water Fit To Drink
We offer multiple choices for good water purification, including both "corrected" reverse osmosis units, and advanced filtration systems, all centered around redox media ("Eagle Redox Alloy" or KDF) because of its unique properties, effectiveness and affordability. All components are free of BPA.
NOTE: Redox alloy is a relatively expensive material. Our purifiers have the substantial amount of redox media needed to do a thorough job. There are other brands, some with the same kind of housing as ours, that contain only a small amount of redox media so they may claim to have it. These will perform less well and for a shorter time than ours.
Our redox and carbon "flow through" water filter cartridges do a great job for one to two years depending on the volume and type of water processed. The larger the family, or the dirtier the water, the sooner you would change the cartridge.
Clean your water of bad taste and odor, chlorine, volatile organic chemicals, heavy metals, agricultural poisons, drugs, lime and scale. Our revolutionary processes effectively clear more household water chemicals and other water problems than other types of water treatment.
The pure, high-pressure solid carbon block in our filter systems will remove particles as small as 5 microns, eliminating even most bacteria. The ultra-filtration cartridge used in some of our systems has an extra fine screening ability of .2 micron.
We have several systems that remove the toxic fluoride added to most cities' water supplies, supposedly for dental benefits. Those wishing to use it for their teeth can use fluoridated toothpaste and mouthwash. You should not be drinking this toxic chemical.
Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a specialized method of screening out water contaminants using a fabricated membrane. This process thoroughly removes chemicals, pharmaceutical residues, bacteria, algae, radioactive particles, etc., from the water.
there is thorough removal of chemicals, microorganisms and even radioactive particles.
The purity of reverse osmosis is superior to filter systems. The reverse osmosis units screen down to a sub-micron size so small that it will screen out almost all of the toxic fluoride, radioactive fallout and drug residues that are in most city water. However, RO also removes most minerals and tends to leave water more acidic.
Our unique reverse osmosis systems have the option of including a "Corrected Water" cartridge to improve water, which may otherwise be too acidic. This re-mineralizing alkalizer is an option with any of our systems to correct water with reduced mineral content or pH below 7.
Our Corrected Water cartridges "energize" the water as well, by conditioning it with minerals and Far Infrared energy. The resulting water is ideal for functionality in the body. The water performs better at doing the things that water does.
Current prices for our complete line of quality point-of-use kitchen water purifier systems range from $29.95 for a water purifying pitcher or $79 for a single counter top unit to $306 for a "corrected water" under counter reverse osmosis system. All of our drinking water purifiers have replaceable cartridges.
We also have whole house systems, which have higher prices than the point of use kitchen units.
Single Counter Top Filter Under Counter R.O. System
One of our point-of-use Redox & Carbon units or reverse osmosis systems will effectively reduce or remove the following contaminants:
~algae ~bacteria ~parasites ~mold/fungus ~bad taste ~bad odor ~pesticides (eg. Endrin, Lindane, Methoxychlor, Toxaphene, etc.) ~herbicides (eg. Silvex; 2, 4-D; etc.) ~fertilizers ~nitrates ~detergents ~PCB's ~THM's ~arsenic ~aluminum ~barium ~cadmium ~chlorine ~chromium ~fluoride ~hydrogen sulfide ~iron ~lead ~mercury ~radon ~selenium ~and many more
We have been in the water purification business for over 45 years.
All components of our water systems are free of BPA.
